The NDA Exam – Gateway to the Armed Forces


Introduction

The National Defence Academy (NDA) exam is one of the most sought-after opportunities for young aspirants who dream of serving the nation as commissioned officers in the Indian Army, Navy, or Air Force. Conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) twice a year, the NDA exam is the very first step towards entering the prestigious academy. Overview of the NDA Exam

Exam Pattern of NDA

Written Examination

The first stage of the NDA recruitment process is the written exam:

  • Mathematics: 300 Marks

  • General Ability Test (GAT): 600 Marks (English + General Knowledge)


SSB Interview

Candidates who clear the written test are called for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview, which lasts around five days. It evaluates:

  • Logical and analytical ability

  • Personality, leadership qualities, and communication skills

  • Psychological and group task performance


Medical Examination

Finally, candidates must go through a medical fitness test. To make sure the applicant can withstand the demands of  National Defence Academy (NDA) training, tests are conducted on physical strength, vision, and general health.

Eligibility Criteria for NDA Exam

  • Age: Between 16.5 to 19.5 years

  • Educational Requirement: 12th grade in math & physics for the Air Force & Navy; any subject for the Army wing

  • Marital Status: Candidate must be unmarried

  • Gender: Both male and female aspirants are eligible
